Morticed Post and Rail Fencing

A highly durable and dense post and rail timber fence will enhance the appearance of your property over many years.

It creates a definitive boundary without obstructing your view.

You have the choice of 2 rail, 3 rail and 4 rail designs.

FAQs

  • The species most commonly used for post and rail fences is Cypress Pine.

Red Gum, Grey Box, Spotted Gum and Ironbark are also available.

  • We use F7 white cypress from Queensland (Callitris glaucophylla) rather than Macrocarpa from Victoria.

    Callitris glaucophylla durability

    • Above-ground: Class 1 (life expectancy more than 40 years); Highly resists decay when fully exposed to the weather.

    • In-ground: Class 2 (life expectancy 15–25 years); Moderately resists decay when used in the ground.

    Local Cypress durability

    • Above-ground: Regarded as equivalent to H3 pine but naturally, termite-resistant

    • In-ground: The heartwood is rated moderately durable (Class 3)

  • From what we see, there is a visible difference within 12 months compared to Victorian cypress.

There is a lower chance of warped rails, split posts and heavily weathered timber with the denser cypress from Queensland

  • We typically suggest:

    Rails to be 150 x 50mm or 200 x 50mm at lengths of 2.4m or 2.7m *

    Intermediate fence posts to be 150 x 150mm or 200 x 200mm at lengths of 1.8m or 2.1m *

Gate posts are typically 200 x 200mm at 2.4m, 2.7m or 3.0m, or longer as required

*Other post and rail sizes available on request, both smaller and larger
